Lucas Oil Treatment

Does it Work?

I think that most car clubs have members that have similar driving habits to our members. Four of our club members drive their cars on a daily basis. The rest of our members drive their cars to meets or events on an occasional basis. I fit into this later category where I may go as long as four weeks in-between drives. With the car sitting for such a period, all the oil has a tendency to drip down into the oil pan.

When I’d start the car, the valves would rattle quite a bit until oil pressure was built up, which seemed to take forever. I’d sit there and imagine all the wear and tear happening during this “dry” start-up. I had read some of the promotional literature for Lucas Oil Treatment. They claimed, among other things, that their product would protect against dry start-ups. Since I was primarily concerned with dry start-ups, I figured what the heck, I’d give it a try and besides, what could go wrong with a name like Lucas on the product (what was I thinking?)! On my next oil change, I followed the instructions on the bottle and replaced one of the quarts of oil with the treatment.

Since that time, I have noticed that on start-ups, no matter what the interval, I do not get the valve noise. I also have noticed that I get almost instant oil pressure. I am pleased with the outcome. The truth of the matter is that I do not know for certain that I am getting any less wear on my engine during dry start-ups. All I know for sure is that there is an absence of clatter, and I don’t have the moments of anxiety waiting for oil pressure to build up. This sure makes me feel better and that is worth the extra cost.
